50th Reunion
Life has been good! God has blessed me with a wonderful wife (Carol) for 43 years, and good health. After high school, I served Uncle Sam, and then worked in sales in Denver. At the tender age of 32, I went back to college to become a high school teacher. I moved to California in 1975 and taught accounting, business classes, coached football, basketball, track and golf.
I retired in 2001, having served the last 10 years as the assistant principal of administration of a new high school. Carol retired from her job as a high school math teacher. We’re enjoying retirement, being home, golfing, off-roading, traveling frequently in our RV and cruising the high seas. Life is good!
2004 Reunion
Family: Wife Carol
Notes of my life: After some years in sales, went back to school and spent 27 years in the field of education, including coaching football, basketball, track and golf. Just retired as Assist. Principal of Administration at Stockdale High School in Bakersfield, Calif.
Current Activities: Traveling in the RV, seeing the back country on the ATV, and golfing.
Plans for the future: More of the same, enjoying retirement
Memories from Lawrence High Days: Those were the good ole days!!
2024

Just moved to new home in April — all on one level (can’t retire now!). Daughter and family moved to Colorado from Lawrence this year. We will get to see youngest granddaughter grow up. Oldest granddaughter getting married in June in Colorado. Been an avid scrap booker for 17 years and making cards. John and I travel a lot while he worked for the airlines. Two years ago the entire family went to Yellowstone in motor home — great trip — everyone should do this.
We have been married 12 years and have two children and three grandchildren ... plus two, four-legged children (Molly and Buster).

50th Reunion
Finally, I’m really retired from teaching as I quit subbing this year. It was a great career for me. My family has grown, and I jump at every opportunity to spend time with three great-nieces and three great-nephews! I continue to walk and exercise on a regular basis and enjoy it most of the time. I’m exploring a new opportunity to serve in my church. A current song, “Blessed Be Your Name,” summarizes so well my faith in the Lord Jesus. Looking forward to visiting with friends at the reunion.
2004 Reunion
Family: nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews
Notes of my life: Retired in May of ‘03 after teaching 1st, 3rd and 4th grades. Spent the summer of ‘02 on a church mission in Ecuador.
Current Activities: Substitutes once a week, participates in a Bible study group and a study group that meets at Homer’s Coffee House. Lots of walking, including a bad weather mall group at Overland Park Mall.
Plans for the future: As the Lord leads. Wants to travel and develop new hobbies.
Memories from Lawrence High Days: Pushing the caps key down on Raybert Thornton’s typewriter before a timed test in Mrs. Lardner’s class. Stage fright in the middle of a report in Mrs. McCoy’s class. A mini-snowball fight in one class while the teacher was out. The never-ending intercom announcement “Lawrence Ranks High”

Alan and his wife, Janet Cooper, were active participants in all of the activities despite the difficulties they went through to attend. Alan died January 3, 2010 at his home. 50th Reunion
Since high school, I graduated from K.U. (International Relations) and was commissioned in the Navy. I served on USS Henderson (DD-785), USS Dale (DLG-19), In-Country Viet-Nam (River Assault Squadron 11), and at Naval Inshore Operations Training Center, and lastly on USS Jouett (DLG-29). I resigned in 1972 as a LCDR.
I went to Graduate School at San Diego State University (Public Administration) and was hired by the City of San Diego. I retired from the City (23 years) in 1998 as a Sr. Mgmt. Analyst.
I married my wonderful wife, Janet, in 2000. She had served in the Navy as a nurse, LCDR, and is now a tax-consultant. We have enjoyed married life taking cruises, and trips exploring her interest in genealogy and history.
Health problems from diabetes complications have been a recent challenge, as I now need a scooter for mobility and my kidneys recently failed and I am on dialysis. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to attending the reunion! |

Biology with Pearl Carpenter, who was committed to getting students to say “stomACH” instead of “stomICK”. Having to copy the Reader’s Digest and SAT questions in Mr. Capper’s English class. Having to memorize play lines for Miss Ruttan. An assembly skit with the ball players dressed up as girls. Being in plays, especially one where the crowd shouted “Give us Barabbas.” The youth church group that had hay rides and skating parties.

50th Reunion
I recently retired after 20 years of service in state and county government and 25 years of owning our own business. Married to Gerold for 49 years, we have two children and four grandchildren. I’m enjoying good health and stay active with aerobics, yoga, pilates and weight lifting as well as walking. I enjoy traveling and outdoor activities. Having our children living close by in the metro area, keeps us busy with family activities. I plan to do more traveling and to volunteer as a leader in 4-H in the months to come.

50th Reunion
I am still working ... don’t know why. We just bought a new house (one level for old bodies). Planning on renting old house. It was a bad move for pack rats. But love new house and new neighborhood. Last trip we took was a family trip in motor home to Yellowstone. Great trip!
Still places in United States we would like to see. Hope we both retire next year and do some traveling. By then we might be entirely settled in our new home. Enjoy our two, four-legged “kids”. Family all reside in Denver area. In good health if I could stay upright and quit injuring.
2004 Reunion
Family: Wife Rosemary, step-children and grandchildren
Notes of my life: Had a good career with the airlines and miss it, but have a great family now. Had a very balanced life background from my parents

"It is with much sadness to inform you of the death of our good friend and fellow 1959 classmate Marvin Hubbard. For the past 3 days I have been emailing him at the email address that he provided me during the 50th reunion preparation but kept getting return responses. I decided to call and ended up conversing with his wife. According to her, Marvin died February 19th, 2010, from leukemia caused by bone cancer. "
– Frank Martinez
You may send condolences to his wife, Linda and family at 12721 Sebring Road; Tampa, FL 33618. Check our reunion book for a photo of Marvin and his family..
50th Reunion
I live in Tampa, Fla. with my wife Linda. We have four children between us and 10 grandchildren.
I am semi-retired doing part-time data entry for my church. Linda works at the same church as the Administrative Assistant managing the care ministry. I have worked in the computer industry and managed a multi-media facility for most of my work career.
The last four years have been an interesting journey. I contracted multiple myeloma cancer in August 2005. I survived that and have been cancer free for over two years. You can read about what I went through and how it challenged my Christian faith if you wish at my blog http://www.cancerfaithandyou.wordpress.com.
About a year ago I contract a disease called MDS which suppresses blood cell production. That I tell you not to feel sorry for me, but say that the entire process has strengthened my relationship with God and spawned a second blog www.discoveringtruehappiness.blogspot.
com. We I try to tell of the personal peace and happiness that I have achieved during the last four years. During that time I also wrote two books that are yet to be published.
Mostly, I love reading, writing, exercising, and playing with my grandchildren and trying to discover what makes me truly happy. I also teach Christian History to a group of interns at the church, work with new believers in a group called Alpha, work with a group of drug addicts and alcoholics at a rehabilitation center in Clearwater. My life is a little busy, but I like it that way.Feel free to share any of this information.
